Curriculum Provision

Themes:

In Summer 2015 we launched the 'Big Ideas' Curriculum. Look out for for more information on the class websites and parents' events in school as we develop this further throughout this year. Our Strategic Development plan last year (the important things we work on as a whole school) was titled THE BIG IDEA!

Our vision for this year was 'highly skilled teachers are able to to use a range of evidence to find out where children are compared to where they should be for their age so that as many children as possible master this'.

We are now embedding this to create the GLA Curriculum, this partnership work being the focus for 2016/17. When ready, children will be challenged even further so that they  independendly apply, evaluate and extend their learning to work at greater depth within this expected standard. For some children, a more tailored curriculum is more appropriate if they have identified special educational needs.

The curriculum enables children to deepen understanding of a variety of wide concepts to promote higher order thinking, whilst ensuring that children develop a sound knowledge of our world.Our unique UNITED learning curriculum also helps children achieve this.

Writing is taught using 'story-telling', a creative approach that enhances children's ability to write imaginative, interesting and thoughtful texts. Our curriculum teams ensure that literacy and numeracy curriculums are compliant with the new national curriculum expectations.

Wherever possible we provide children the opportunity to visit other settings and we provide a range of extra-curricular opportunities.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. We follow the EYFS curriculum statutory framework.

Parents will be given a currciculum map each term with additional details. Teachers can also provide more detailed outlines of the curriculum. Check the class pages for more information.
